What is the IRS Section 179 Expense Deduction?

Typically, if property for business has a useful life of more than one year, the cost must be spread across several tax years as depreciation with a portion of the cost deducted each year. But there is a way to immediately receive these income tax benefits in one tax year. The provisions of Internal Revenue Code Section 179 allow a sole proprietor, partnership or corporation to fully expense tangible property in the year it is purchased.

For farm businesses this is good news—property that may be written off in the tax year of purchase, rather than depreciated over the asset's useful life, includes: machinery and equipment (including trailers), most storage facilities, and single-purpose agricultural or horticultural structures.Tax-law changes over the past few years have made the Section 179 Expense Deduction much more appealing by letting your write off bigger amounts, faster.

If you’re thinking about buying a trailer for your business or farm use, there is still time in 2009. However, the Section 179 deduction isn’t automatic; you must take the deduction on form 4562.

While Featherlite Trailers is known for its innovative and convenient options, its new Model 8117 offers convenience through simplicity.

The Model 8117 is a gooseneck livestock trailer, a “little brother” to Featherlite’s award-winning Model 8127. It comes standard with features that appeal to first-time trailer buyers and infrequent haulers alike. Among these features are a treated wood floor, a full swing center gate with slam latch and a curbside door for convenient unloading. One of the most attractive features, though, may be the 8117’s low price point.

Simplicity does not mean lack of quality. The Model 8117 boasts the same high standards as any Featherlite trailer, from its aluminum alloy walls to its one piece roof. It also benefits from the pierce and roll technique Featherlite uses on the roof rivets. This technique is also used in the airline manufacturing industry to drastically reduce the chance of leaks.

The Model 8117 is a perfect “gateway trailer,” combining the solid quality of Featherlite with an economical price point. For more information about the Model 8117, call Ron or Larry at Lazy B at 800-424-5110 or email sales@lazybtrailers.com.

Featherlite Horse Trailers at Congress

10/7/2009

CRESCO, Iowa/October 7, 2009 —At this month’s All American Quarter Horse Congress, Featherlite’s show display will include many new “lite-priced” horse trailers, while still offering horse owners Featherlite’s all-aluminum durability plus distinctive luxury choices. “Featherlite’s newest generation of horse trailers originates from a desire to offer more value to horse owners who are faced with a challenging economy yet are still focused on the safety and care of their horses and don’t want to sacrifice reliability and quality,” Randy Lewis, Featherlite national sales manager, said.

Leading the line up of new Featherlite trailers on display at the Quarter Horse Congress (Congress) is the Model 8533 gooseneck horse trailer introduced this spring that now has even more options including a 2-horse configuration and a weekender living quarters. A Model 8533 combining both new options will be on display at Congress. The 8533 measures an easy-to-tow width of 6’7” and has Featherlite’s new standard feature – chrome glass windows. The trailer sports a handy dressing room with 46” short wall when not outfitted with a living quarters.

The weekender living quarters in the Model 8533 offers the options of a bed in the gooseneck, shower/toilet combo, overhead cabinets, single stainless steel sink, countertop, wardrobe closet, in cabinet refrigerator, microwave and other amenities.

“Featherlite’s 8533 horse trailer is designed for the recreational horse owner with its lower price point and the option for a small living quarters, yet it still affords a horse owner the durability and value of Featherlite’s all-aluminum construction,” Lewis said. The starting retail price for the Model 8533 is $18,404 with the living quarters starting at $27,105.

Another solution for price-conscious horse owners is Featherlite’s new Model 8417, a combo horse/stock gooseneck trailer. The new combo trailer also measures 6’7” wide and is available in lengths of 16’ and 20’ and with a slant or straight wall dressing room. The trailer comes standard with a wood floor, wraparound LED lights, an aerodynamic tapered gooseneck and full swing rear gate. Numerous additions are available on the Model 8417 including tack options, LED strip lighting, plexiglass and more.

“Two other new lite-priced horse trailer models, the 9405 and 9409, plus our livestock Model 8117 are also new for 2010, plus pricing on most Featherlite models has never been more attractive,” Lewis said. “While we’ve developed more economical hauling options, we’ve still kept focus on the quality, easy-tow and durability of a Featherlite trailer. In addition, all horse trailers now come with Featherlite’s new mirrored “chrome” glass windows.”

On the other end of the spectrum, horse owners still have the option of customizing their trailer with eye-catching and unique options with the Featherlite PerfectFitTM System. Featherlite will have on display a Featherlite living quarters horse trailer configured with a Nintendo Wii®. This 23-ft. double slideout has a rear bedroom that also serves as an entertainment suite. It sports a leather foldout electric couch, a wet bar and a Nintendo Wii. There is also a Wii gaming console outside on the trailer. The trailer features stylish LED strip lighting that provides extra illumination in the horse area, a wrapped hay rack, convenient sliding saddle rack and an exterior with dual silver/black side sheets and polished aluminum panels on the bottom.

Another living quarters on display will feature heavy-duty 2” thick feed doors with chrome glass windows, fans in the horse area and polished panels on the exterior. The 16’ living quarters area features a VIP interior with 2-toned walnut cabinet doors with a clear maple inlay.

Other horse trailers on display include:•The new Model 9405 horse trailer will be on showcase with one of Featherlite’s newest exterior colors – brandywine. The Model 9405 is a one or two horse trailer with a flip up rear door and a ramp.
•Featherlite’s popular Model 8541 gooseneck horse trailer features exterior styling of dual white and stainless steel with painted ‘wave’ side panels on the bottom, a white painted roof rail, graphics and Featherlite’s new optional aluminum wheels. The horse area is equipped with Featherlite’s new WERM flooring option, which seals the trailer floor and provides a padded, slip resistant surface that is impervious to liquids and eliminates the need for rubber mats.
•& Many more!

Featherlite has been building all-aluminum horse trailers since 1973. Each Featherlite horse trailer comes with an 8-year limited structural warranty, and new for 2010 models, Featherlite’s warranty is transferable when traded in for a new Featherlite trailer and resold at an authorized Featherlite dealer. “Horse owners can feel confident they’re receiving reliability, a superior tow and peace of mind when they choose a Featherlite horse trailer,” Lewis said.

The All American Quarter Horse Congress is held at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio, from Oct. 2-25, 2009 with the trade show opening October 8. Featherlite’s display spaces at Congress are inside in Congress Hall and outside across the street from the Congress Annex. For more information, call 800-800-1230.
